Take the Trip

NYC with Teens

Taking the teens to New York City was a scary one for me. I had never been and I was pretty overwhelmed. I would suggest staying within walking distance to Times Square and the Theater District. We stayed at the Yotel New York in Times Square for 2 nights. Great location. No frills but still has a modern vibe that the kids loved!

Day 1 – We took the five minute walk to Times Square to see the shopping and lights! It was seriously impressive and it felt like the trip was already worth it. We checked out the famous FAO Schwarz, M&M store, Nickelodean store and much more!

We love noodle bars and had the best dinner at the tiny and delicious, Ichiran Ramen in Times Square. What an experience! If you love noodle bars, you have to check it out.

We were in New York City in November, and one of the highlights of the trip was ice skating at the Rink at Rockefeller Center. Make sure you book your ice skating time in advance. You can reserve a one hour time slot. The Christmas tree wasn’t up yet but we had so much fun. Such a cool experience!

Day 2 was jam packed! We started the morning at the famous Hudson Bagel and it did not disappoint!

Then we went to another favorite, the Museum of Illusions. We bought tickets and reserved our time slot ahead of time. The teens loved this instagram worthy museum. Every exhibit was an eye trick and we loved it.

After grabbing a slice of pizza we Ubered to the powerful National September 11 Memorial.

From there, we walked 15 minutes to Battery Park to catch a view of the Statue of Liberty. We didn’t have the time to take the ferry to Ellis Island, but I wish we did. Next time!

We had plans that night to go see a show in the theater district so we headed back to the Yotel for a quick change before walking to dinner nearby at the Gyu-Kaku. The kids loved grilling their Japanese bbq and s’mores at our table.

It was only a 5 minute walk to our show, Hamilton. This was our first Broadway play and I can’t say enough about it! What better way to make learning the history of Alexander Hamilton fun than with current rap battles! The acting was incredible and I can’t wait to get back to New York City to see another play!
